Unpublished Writers Day
I run a weblog called Die Puny Humans -- http://www.diepunyhumans.com , for those who haven't seen it. It's a medium-traffic blog, I guess -- something like four thousand unique visitors a day. A couple of months ago, I did something called Fast Fiction Friday, where I invited a bunch of my professional writer friends to produce a piece of ultra-short fiction each.
I want to do something similar again this Friday -- and the invitation is extended only to the unpublished writers who are reading me on Livejournal.
These are the rules. Failure to follow the rules will lead to me just deleting your entry.
1. No more than 200 words. This is fast fiction.
2. Put your piece in the body of your email, not as an attachment.
3. At the end of the piece, write me a one- or two-line bio of yourself, AND your Livejournal URL, AND attach a photo of yourself that you can stand to have 4000 people see. If I don't see all of these three things, I delete your mail. The LJ URL is important -- this is for my LJ readers.
4. I'll be blunt -- I'm only going to run stuff I like. I am NOT going to be able to reply to every email, I suspect, but I will do my absolute best to get back in touch with you if I'm not going to use your piece. This rule comes under the heading of Don't Hate Me, For I Am Old And Fragile.
5. Anything with egregious spelling errors will be deleted. I don't have time to edit stuff.
6. For the love of god, include the name you wish to be known by. If I have to go through email headers to find your name, I will get angry and dislodge my colostomy bag.
Please please please: there are at LEAST as many female readers as male on the 2000-strong list of subscribers to this LJ. I really want to see as many female writers as male. The mass of creative talent on LJ cuts right across gender lines, and I hope to see that represented.
